Teaching Assistant: Mrs Sam Pilkington and Miss Rebecca Coll (INA)
Welcome to Oak Class!
This term we are very excited that our topic is Chocolate!
We are looking at books by Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake, including of course, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We will be using our senses to investigate different kinds of chocolate, from white to dark, deciding which one would be healthiest for Grandpa Joe! We will also be investigating liquids and solids, as we experience melting chocolate to create our very own Crispy Wonka Cakes. The children will have the opportunity to become Star Scientists and wear their very own lab coats.
In maths we are working very hard to really get to grips with place value, addition and subtraction.
The children’s reading skills are progressing very well, as we think about interpreting and reading between the lines to discover what the characters might be feeling and thinking. As always, daily reading at home is of paramount importance.
Year 2 booster sessions take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Please ensure your child arrives no later than 8.30 if you wish them to take part, otherwise arrival is at normal time. Attendance at the boosters is voluntary but can be a great help to consolidate and enrich the children’s learning.
Friday is homework day and the children will be given spellings and maths homework. There will be a spelling test each Friday.
Please read at home with your child every day. We cannot stress enough, the importance of daily reading at home.
We will be using the following websites in our learning and encourage you to look at them at home with your child (you may even want to join in with the singing and dancing!)
