A Week of Numbers, Noises, and Nature at Honeybees Preschool!

This week at Honeybees Preschool, our little learners have been buzzing with activity, exploring a fantastic range of subjects from counting to colours, and sounds to science!

Our week was heavily focused on mastering the connection between numerals and quantity, specifically up to the number five. We made learning fun and engaging by incorporating familiar and catchy rhymes! The children hopped along with “Five Speckled Frogs,” dreamed of treats with “Five Currant Buns in a Baker’s Shop,” and bounced with “Five Little Bunnies.” Through these playful activities, they solidified their understanding of associating the written numeral with the corresponding number of objects.

In literacy, we revisited the much-loved story "Monster Clothes!" This provided a wonderful opportunity to reinforce initial sounds and the important concept of voiced sounds. The children enjoyed identifying the beginning sounds of different words and practicing how different sounds are made using their voices.

Our explorations extended beyond letters and numbers and into the vibrant world of music. We delved into the concepts of tempo and volume, using a variety of instruments to create fast and slow rhythms, and loud and quiet sounds. This hands-on experimentation helped the children understand how these elements contribute to the overall feel and expression of music.

Finally, our budding scientists embarked on a fascinating journey into the world of flowers! We learned about the different parts of a flower, including the stem, petals, leaves, and pollen. To truly understand these components, we even dissected a tulip! By carefully taking the tulip apart, the children were able to observe each individual element and discuss its role in the flower's life cycle.
